WHY VR?
For us at Cody, it's important to stay abreast of technological advancements. It's at the core of most of what we do and deliver. VR is no exception, and we eagerly embrace VR goggles as a tool in our projects.
Our product developer, Robin Vinje, works extensively on product design and development, and he mentions the following benefits of using VR: "Visualizing how a machine or product fits into the space or area it's intended for can be crucial to achieving a satisfactory result without going through many extra iterations. Viewing this as a 3D drawing on a screen doesn't necessarily have the same effect as being able to see it in 1:1 scale in the actual environment, as is possible today."
By using VR goggles' "passthrough" mode, one can see the real environment and overlay 3D models. Therefore, the use of VR opens up more possibilities, allowing one to virtually "operate the product" before it's fully developed. Presenting a solution in this manner is often time-saving and shortens the decision-making process.
Additionally, one can also connect VR goggles to a PC for even more possibilities. This enables the addition of more advanced animations and accurate materials. The result is a 3D model that provides a very realistic impression. It's a great way to showcase aesthetics and details.
“PLUG AND PLAY”
VR technology has advanced rapidly in a short period of time, with major players such as Meta and Apple developing their own versions.
Previously, enjoying the benefits of VR required wall sensors and a rather complex setup. Today, it's significantly simplified. "We ensure that what the customer wants to see is created and uploaded, so all you have to do is put on the goggles and become familiar with the product", Vinje concludes.
